NZ School of Wines and Spirits

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits : Distance Option

All students must have successfully completed WSET Level 2 before enrolling in Level 3.

The Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits builds on knowledge learned at Level 2. This qualification is intended to provide core knowledge of the wide range of wines and spirits from around the world, with in-depth study over 4 intensive days. Study packs are delivered once enrolments are closed so students can familiarise themselves with the materials.

The course is based around a 9 week structured online programme of 6 hours study per week. However, the course has no fixed study times, so students may plan their studies to suit themselves.

The course utilises social media to allow students to study alongside their peers under the guidance of a WSET tutor. Each week includes a series of online group activities taking students on virtual world tour of the key wine regions looking in depth at the key influences behind the styles of wine produced in each.

In the second week of the course, students are asked to attend a one day tasting tutorial session. 10 wines are tasted during this session and the correct method of answering the practical exam paper is discussed. However students should understand that for the best chance of success in the examination, they are advised to taste a range of wines, purchased at their own cost,  during their studies. A list of 28 general styles of wine will be issued at the beginning of the course which students will need to taste as part of their online activities. Tasting note feedback opportunities are also included in the programme.

The 2.5 hour final exam comprises 60 multiple choice questions, 4 short answer questions and a blind tasting of two wines.

The examination is held in central Auckland.  From time to time the exam is offered in Wellington too.

2017 Course Fee : $925.00 inc GST
